PROGGA organized a day-long planning workshop for observing the World No Tobacco Day 2010.  The workshop has involved the BI grantees of Bangladesh and held on 24 May 2010 (from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) at the Top of the Park of Hotel Sheraton, Dhaka.

All of the BI grantees (ACD Consortium, ACLAB, AID, CAB, NATAB, PROGGA, Shimantik, Unnayan Shamannay, WBB Trust and YPSA) in Bangladesh along with their women’s organization (s) representatives participated in the workshop and share their plans targeting WNTD 2010.

Alike the previous year, this year’s World No Tobacco Day 2010 is being observed on 31st May 2010. The World No Tobacco Day 2010 is designed to draw particular attention to tobacco marketing to women and girls.  Research shows that 14 million women are using tobacco and 10 million women are exposed to second hand smoking in Bangladesh. In this context, PROGGA in collaboration with Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) and Naripokkho organized a roundtable on Women and Tobacco in Bangladesh for observing the World No Tobacco Day 2010.  The Roundtable held on 30 May 2010 at 9:30 am at the CIRDAP Auditorium, 17 Topkhana Road, Dhaka.

In the program welcome speech was delivered by the Executive Member of Naripokkho Ms. Shamsun Nessa. The Key Note presentation was made by the Chairman of PROGGA Taifur Rahman. Dr. Meerjadi Sabrina Flora, Associate Professor of NIPSOM discussed on the Key Note. Ms. Khushi Kabir, Coordinator of Nijera Kori and Dr. Arup Ratan Chowdhury, Chairman of MANAS were present as special guests. The program was chaired by Ms. Rokeya Kabir, Executive Director of Bangladesh Nari Pragati Sangha (BNPS) and moderated by Dr. Iqbal Kabir, Coordinator of National Tobacco Control Cell (NTCC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
